What the ranges in this tool actually mean: Every benchmark range is the expected number for a player at your grade level who is on track to be recruited at that college level — not the averages of players already on college rosters. A sophomore seeing a 60–65 mph pitch velocity range for mid-major D1 is seeing what a sophomore pitcher on track for mid-major D1 needs to throw right now. Ranges for younger players are lower because development is built into the model. For tiered levels (D2, JUCO, D3, NAIA), separate ranges reflect what elite, standard, and developmental programs within each division actually recruit.
